Sturminster Newton,  is a North Dorset Market Town, lying in the heart of the  Blackmore Vale. It is within easy reach of Blandford Forum, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Poole and Bournemouth. It is also known as the home of the poet Thomas Hardy.

Flowing around the town, the River Stour rises at Stourhead and reaches the sea at Christchurch. The coarse fishing is considered to be among the best in England.

Some 200 yards from the bridge is a picturesque and ancient working water mill now known as Sturminster Mill and Museum. The Exchange is a  multi purpose building offering a high degree of flexibility for various uses. It is a community centre, an arts centre and also a  learning centre.
