Portland
Portland will be the home of the 2012 sailing Olympics. Portland is not really an island but is reached over a narrow causeway from Chesil Beach. Portland Stone is famous and was used by Sir Christopher Wren to rebuild London after the Great Fire. Portland Harbour was one of the main naval bases of the United Kingdom.
There is a large automatic lighthouse which warns shipping about the hazardous rocks and Shambles Bank around Portland.
